  • Explore the frontiers of computational biology, NASA GeneLab, and beyond! In a recent talk, Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO, highlighted the intersection of computer science with biology and medical science as one of the most promising areas in the coming years. What does this entail? What opportunities does it present? Join Sally Ha from UC San Diego to learn more about this fascinating area. In particular, she will highlight the work of GeneLab at NASA and explore key topics in computational biology, such as genome sequencing and genome analysis. These cutting-edge technologies hold immense potential across diverse realms, spanning from drug discovery to the development of new medical therapies, understanding our world's evolution, facilitating space exploration, and so much more. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to ignite your child's curiosity and passion for science. Join us!

To learn more about computational biology explore our Intro to Computational Biology class, and find out how to use code to decipher your biological code -- understand what makes you YOU.

Sally Ha is a third-year student at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where she is pursuing a degree in Bioengineering with a specialization in Bioinformatics. Sally's passion lies in leveraging the intersection of biology, engineering, and computer science to propel healthcare advancements through bioinformatics and computational biology. She is the recipient of an NSF REU award, which has afforded her the opportunity to immerse herself in bioinformatics research, particularly in pedigree-based mutation rate analyses. Beyond her studies, Sally contributes to the scientific community as a student researcher in a molecular and cell biology lab at UCSD. Here, she delves into the mechanisms of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and its role in various physiological pathways. Her focus includes investigating how ER stress interplays in diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and COVID-19. Outside of her academic pursuits, Sally enjoys reading and exploring the outdoors.
