Learn how to make games in Roblox

Does your child love Roblox? With this beginner Roblox coding class, they will start making their own Roblox games in no time!

This class uses a coding approach similar to Scratch, but specifically designed for Roblox game development. It’s far more effective for young learners than Lua, a text-based programming language used for building Roblox games. With our project-based learning approach, students will gain essential Roblox coding skills, build a series of fun games, develop their creativity, and have tons of fun!

If your child is relatively new to coding, we highly recommend they complete the Scratch Coding classes first to before taking Roblox coding classes for best outcomes. Most students who complete this beginner course advance to our Coding with Roblox Studio in Lua class. Students who are already familiar with Python, Java, Lua, or Unity may consider skipping ahead to Coding with Roblox Studio in Lua directly.

Beginner Roblox Game Coding - Free Intro

Join this fun free intro class to get a taste of what creating Roblox games is like, and start learning Roblox coding! This class is designed for students who have not had any prior experience with Roblox Studio, the official tool for building Roblox games. We help students install and activate Roblox Studio, and go through a step-by-step tutorial to build an interactive Obby game with different shapes, colors, and materials!

Due to the popularity of this free class, there might be more than five students per intro class. Please note that the full course has a cap at five students maximum to ensure ample attention is provided to each student.

Beginner Roblox Game Coding 1

In this first part, we introduce the basics of Roblox coding by building fun and interactive games! Since most students are new to complex coding environments like Roblox Studio, we start by teaching foundational skills to set them up for success.

Students will learn how to use the workspace, configure object properties like color and texture, and apply these elements in their games. We'll also learn key coding concepts such as if/then statements, loops, and variables within the context of Roblox coding. Additionally, students will explore how to make game elements respond to player interactions, such as clicks, movements, and more!

Beginner Roblox Game Coding 2

The fun and learning continue in Part 2 of this beginner Roblox game-making class! Students will complete the dodgeball game started in Part 1, learn how to use clones to easily create multiple game objects, and even build a multiplayer game! Students are encouraged to invite their friends to play and test their multiplayer games together. The game will include a leaderboard to give players extra motivation. This part also delves deeper into Roblox coding concepts, helping students become more familiar with the nuances of Roblox coding while reinforcing the skills learned in Part 1.

Beginner Roblox Game Coding 3

In the final part of this class, students will build two multi-faceted games, combining previously learned Roblox coding skills with new concepts like messaging. One game is inspired by the highly popular Infinity Run, where players must turn, dodge, and jump to avoid obstacles and earn points. Students will also learn how to create quiz games on any topic they are interested in, allowing them to showcase their knowledge and interests through interactive gameplay.

We look forward to seeing your child’s creativity shine as they learn and code their own Roblox games!

Frequently Asked Questions About Beginner Roblox Game Coding

My kid loves Roblox and wants to learn Roblox coding. How should we get started?

Roblox coding is a great way to keep students engaged while learning valuable programming skills.

Depending on your child’s age and prior coding experience, there are two great starting points:

If your child is new to coding, they should begin with Scratch Coding, and then move on to Beginner Roblox Game Coding.

Beginner Roblox Game Coding uses block-based coding, which is more intuitive for younger students.
Coding with Roblox Studio in Lua uses Lua, a text-based scripting language. Both classes use Roblox Studio, the official platform for creating Roblox games.

For students interested in Lua programming, we highly recommend learning Python coding first. Python helps build foundational text-based coding skills that make it easier to succeed in Lua.
