Learn core computer architecture topics - binary, networking, security, algorithm, and more
You might have learned coding for a while. But have you ever thought about how do computers work exactly? How does it understand the code we write? How do computers talk to each other? How to keep our data secure? There are many fun questions like that.
In this Computer Science Principles class, we introduce students to a wide range of important fundamental topics in computer science such as binary, encryption, networking, and more. It is a great step for learning more about system and architectural aspects of computers.
Developed by expert AP computer science educators, the class also meets the requirements for the AP CSP exam as defined by the College Board. We recommend all students who have done a couple of years of coding to learn AP CSP and take the exam. It is fairly achievable for high schoolers and even many middle schoolers
About APCSP - APCSP (AP Computer Science Principles) is one of the two computer science AP courses/exams offered by the College Board. APCSP covers a broad range of topics. It is "an introductory college-level computing course that introduces students to the breadth of the field of computer science." Students learn to master essentials in these 5 Big Ideas areas defined by College Board:
Big Idea 1: Creative Development (CRD) — Iterative software design, testing, and collaborative problem-solving.
Big Idea 2: Data (DAT) — Digital representation, processing, and analysis of data to generate insights.
Big Idea 3: Algorithms and Programming (AAP) — Core logic (sequencing, selection, iteration) and reusability through abstraction.
Big Idea 4: Computer Systems and Networks (CSN) — Data transfer, internet protocols, fault tolerance, and parallel computing.
Big Idea 5: Impact of Computing (IOC) — Real-world effects, including privacy, security, ethics, bias, and digital access.

Computer Science Principles - Core
Create Performance Task class - unless you are doing the Performance Task part else where. Create Performance Task is required for the exam. The best time to take Create Performance Task class is around Feb/March of the year, right before the May exam.
Key AP CSP exam dates for the 2026-27 school year:
Registration deadline - Nov. 13, 2026 - without late fee; March 12, 2027 with a late fee. Exam date - May 14, 2027
