At Create & Learn, we’re passionate about offering the best learning experiences to our students. The recent development of AI has enabled us to do much more than ever before. Today, I’d like to share several AI initiatives focused on improving learning experiences for our students.

These efforts fall into two main areas: student-facing applications and teacher professional development. We began offering a semester-long, comprehensive AI course for grades 4–8 back in 2018—one of the earliest in the country. Fast forward to today, and we not only have a full K–12 AI curriculum, but we've also integrated AI into other computer science classes and created a set of AI tools to support student learning both inside and outside the classroom.

For teachers, our AI tools help them quickly get up to speed with new curricula and provide feedback on classroom teaching to help teachers continuously improve their teaching practices.

AI Classes for Students - Learning, Creating, and Exploring

We offer a variety of classes that teach students both how AI works and how to use it effectively. One of our cornerstone classes is the AI Explorers course. This class gives students a broad overview of AI, covering key topics like neural networks, supervised and reinforcement learning, data collection, and real-world applications such as computer vision, robotics, art, and creativity.

For students interested in diving deeper into specific tools and technologies, the Create with ChatGPT class and AI Art class explore these two areas in depth. For those already experienced with Python, the AI Creators class uses Python to build real AI systems. Projects include computer vision applications, experimenting with stable diffusion models, and even using the ChatGPT API to build custom chatbots.

Leverage AI in Learning Coding

Beyond structured courses, we also incorporate AI into several key classes to teach students how to leverage AI to learn and use computer science more effectively. For example, in our Python classes, students use AI to debug their code, brainstorm project ideas, or get help when they’re stuck. Our joint study with SMASH shows that by integrating AI into data science classes, students not only produce stronger projects but also show more interests and higher motivation in pursuing data science as a career.

AI Tools to Support Learning Outside the Classroom

To extend learning beyond live classes, we’ve built a suite of AI-powered tools designed specifically for students.

One great example is our AI Class Assistant, which is available for most of our classes in the classroom page, which can be accessed from your account page. When students have questions—say, about reading numbers separated by commas in Python—they can type their query into our AI assistant and receive instant help.

We’ve also created a Scratch Project Generator that helps students build their own original Scratch projects. They can select a theme (like games), choose characters and settings, and provide a brief description. The AI then generates project ideas complete with step-by-step instructions, sample code, visuals, and sprites to bring the project to life. Students can review examples and tweak their projects with ease.

Another great tool is the Python Skill Builder. It offers a set of fun practice projects with clearly defined learning goals, guidance, and hints. Students work through projects step by step and can ask the AI assistant for help along the way. It's a great way to build skills through hands-on learning.

AI for Teachers: Empowering Educators

We also support teachers with the power of AI. We’ve developed tools to help educators quickly get up to speed on new curriculums. Our AI assistant can explain slides, suggest ways to teach content, and answer any questions a teacher might have while preparing for class.

On top of that, we analyze teachers’ class transcripts using AI to provide personalized feedback. By comparing the transcripts with our teaching rubrics—developed in collaboration with a Code.org expert—we can offer actionable suggestions to help teachers improve both classroom management and content delivery.

Looking Ahead

At Create & Learn, we continuously evolve our platform and programs to ensure students and teachers alike have the best tools and resources at their fingertips. By leveraging AI, we're creating a learning environment that’s smarter and more supportive than ever.
