From Mario to Minecraft, we will dive into the history of video game music and analyze some of the greatest video game melodies! Students will participate in creative listening activities, using only an audio clip to imagine what the on-screen action in the video game might look like. I will empower students with basic music vocabulary to describe what they are hearing (fast/slow tempo, rising/falling pitch, instrumentation), as well as teach students the basics of video game design and how it transforms the music (8-bit processing chips, non-linear stories, adaptive audio).
55 Minutes Per Session
No prior musical experience is required and all ages welcome, but best suited for grades 6-12.
